PROJECT DETAIL:
Contracted to perform all blasting and crushing services for the construction of a new apartment complex in the City of Quincy, MA.
Blasting Scope: Drilling and blasting approximately 70,000 cubic yards of open rock and trench rock. Drilling and blasting work to accommodate entire site development including landscape, roadway and parking lots construction, six (6) building foundations with underground garages and elevator pits, recreational and pool area, and the installation of underground utilities.
Crushing: Processing (a.) approximately 92,500 tons of material to create 4-inch minus gravel, (b.) 76,000 tons of material to create 2-inch minus gravel, and (c.) 18,000 tons of material to create crushed stone and sand products. Equipment used to perform this work includes a Komatsu PC600-7 track excavator, a Komatsu BR580JG-1 mobile jaw crusher, and a Terex® Cedarapids MVP 380X Cone Crusher with 100-ft. stacking conveyor powered by a CAT XQ800 Generator
Location: Quincy, MA
Challenges: Development site situated within busy Commercial Park and closely abuts nearby buildings. Property is in close proximity to Interstate 93 and live 6-inch industrial gas main.
Schedule: Property was formerly a rock quarry which became dump site littered with boulders and other unusable materials. Such materials had to first be processed in order to provide full site access to follow-up trades. Blasting operations were also some of the first activities to be performed. As a result, both crushing and blasting schedules were expedited having strict completion dates.
