PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The new Elbridge Gerry Elementary School will be an 82,000-square-foot facility that will accommodate approximately 450 students. Students will be from kindergarten to third grade and the new facility will consolidate three elementary schools in the district under one roof.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The project involved the abatement and demolition of two existing school structures and blasting of more than 12,000 cubic yards of ledge to make room for the new school structure.
Project was located within a tight residential neighborhood. Vibrations was a real concern of the abutters and the design team. Our blast techs worked closely with the design team and Fire Department to develop a plan which allowed for blasting to occur within 40 feet of existing homes. Project specifications called for lower vibration and decibel limits than state regulations. With a well developed blast plan the ledge removal was conducted no impact to the surrounding neighborhood.
